When anything comes before your personal character, not only will you loose every time, your life will eventually be filled with a paralyzing amount of regret.
So how much is a person’s integrity worth? The answer is very simple… EVERYTHING! Why? Because without someone trusting you, you’ll be incapable of any personal or professional relationships that actually matter. Any accomplishment you experience without character is superficial, empty, transactional, and will contribute to an isolated life of loneliness.
Our character is the foundation upon which we build friendships, maintain a family, and grow a career. Our character is the sum of our values and principles that we live by and use to make decisions. Taking personal responsibility in any and every situation is also the key that unlocks greater and more fulfilling opportunities as opposed to giving excuses and being a victim in all circumstances and situations.
Values are the beliefs and principles that guide your actions and decisions. They shape how we interact with the world and the people around us. When you align your actions with your values, you build trust and credibility, which are essential for success in any area of life.
Principles are the rules and standards we live by. They help us navigate difficult situations and make tough decisions. When we have a strong set of principles, we can approach our work with integrity and honesty, which are also essential for building a successful career or having any kind of fulfilling relationships.
Personal responsibility is about taking ownership of our actions and being accountable for the outcomes of those actions. It means being reliable and dependable, and taking the initiative to improve our skills and knowledge. When we take personal responsibility, we demonstrate to others that we are capable and worthy of trust, which are important qualities in any workplace, marriage, or project.
Having strong character is not just about being a good person – it is also about positioning yourself for success. By building our character on a foundation of values, principles, and extreme personal responsibility, we open the door to greater opportunities and a more fulfilling life. So, before you set your sights on success, make sure you are building your character first. Before we can lead others, we need to be able to have ‘self-leadership.’ The road to success in anything starts with who you are as a person.
Integrity is priceless! Integrity can’t be bought. Reaching a goal without integrity isn’t ‘success’ it’s actually epically failing and cheating yourself (and everyone around you) out of all the lessons learned and important experienced gained to be able to handle more responsibility.
As soon as famous cyclist Lance Armstrong was found to be doping over his ‘impressive winning’ career, his seven ‘Tour de France’ championships became a sham. Instead of being respected as a true champion, he instantly became famous for being a phony, a lier, and world-class cheater. The moral of his story and unfortunately for so many other athletes and business leaders in our culture today is that achieving a goal without integrity is hollow. It’s simply fake. It’s doesn’t mean anything. Without trust, without integrity, without the journey of sacrifice, self discipline, and hard work… the ‘success’ is just pretend and doesn’t really matter.
Integrity is choosing your thoughts and actions based on values rather than personal gain. No matter how educated, talented, rich, or cool someone might believe they are, how we treat people will tell everything about us. Integrity is not something we show others, it’s how we behave when no one is looking. An image might be what people think we are, but integrity is what we really are. There is no better test of integrity than our behavior when we’re wrong. Live so that when your children think of fairness, caring, and integrity, they think of you. Honesty and integrity are absolutely essential for success in life – all areas of life. A life lived with integrity – even if it lacks the trappings of fame and fortune is a shining star in whose light others may follow in the years to come
Integrity is everything, ‘whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters.’ The integrity of men is to be measured by their conduct, not by their profession. There is no better test of integrity than your behavior when you’re wrong. Live so that when your children think of fairness, caring, and integrity, they think of you. I believe that we should live in such a way that if someone spoke badly of us, no one would believe it.
Anyone can develop both honesty and integrity.
